Target #1: 100% of sex offenders known to the department are compliant in submitting required documentation on a quarterly or annual basis per AS 12.63 (Registration of Sex Offenders)
Most registrations are processed within two business days of receipt by the SOR Office. The department works in coordination with state and local law enforcement agencies and the US Marshal"s Office to attempt contact with sex offenders who are out of compliance. Training for staff in the SOR Office is challenging as policy and procedural workflows are ever changing due to statutory changes, Alaska court decisions, and legal opinions/outcomes from lawsuits. Staffing was a significant issue in FY2022-2023 and restructuring the unit to add a program manager solely assigned to the SOR Office provided improved training and support for staff and management of the program. Additionally, staff positions were reclassified from Criminal Justice Technicians to Criminal Justice Specialists to account for the extensive legal research and record auditing necessary to manage the sex offender registry. As a result of those changes, staffing has been stable allowing consistent and reliable production effort in FY2024. Target Last Modified: 11/05/2024 |
