Target #1: 100% of Preventative Site Maintenance is Completed Methodology: This is a new performance measure that the Alaska Public Communication Service component began tracking in FY2022. The intent of this measure is to show progress in performing annual site maintenance on sites that provide public safety communication services. Limited resources prevent performing all categories of work at the necessary levels. Due to the extremely remote locations of the sites, transportation to the them may involve contracted support such as helicopters to reach them, weather conditions limit when the maintenance can be scheduled, and securing lodging can be challenging during peak tourist season or closed winter operations. The team has streamlined preventative maintenance procedures below manufacturer recommended maintenance, to shorten the amount of time spent at each site, enabling more sites to have at least limited maintenance completed. Even after limiting the preventative maintenance tasks, we are still not able to improve the metric due to limited numbers of staff and higher priority project and break/fix work. Recruiting qualified applicants is an ongoing challenge, as there is not a pool of applicants in the economy who do this type of work. The office has looked at contracting more of the preventative maintenance work but is finding it to be cost prohibitive. Target Last Modified: 11/05/2024
