Analysis of results and challenges:
The data provided comes from surveys conducted throughout the year by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Services. Core services continue to demonstrate growth in monetary value of Alaska agricultural products sold.

Analysis of results and challenges: Division of Agriculture is the recipient of several federal USDA grant awards. Federal grant opportunities for food security have become more available since the pandemic, supply chain issues, etc. Included in the FY2023 amount is Country of Origin Labeling, Organic Cost Share Assistance, CAPS Pest Detection/ Infrastructure, Specialty Crop Block/ HR 133, Technical Assistance for Specialty Crops, Local Food Purchase Assistance, Microgrants for Food Security Programs, and Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program. These grants represent funds that were awarded in FY2023 but may be multiyear, with only the one year reported. Although these grants do provide for a percentage to cover personnel, it is not sufficient to cover all personnel administration costs.

Analysis of results and challenges: The data provided comes from inspections through regulatory statute, services provided to industries, and pest detection survey programs. These inspections, such as, phytosanitary for export, certified seed potatoes and HGAP food safety audits are either required by regulation or a service provided for market access in both foreign and domestic markets. The pest detection survey program, include nursery inspections, invasive pest trapping as well as pest permit reviews for agricultural products imported into Alaska, which protect Alaska`s environment and agriculture industries from unwanted pest introductions. The increase from 2022 to 2023 is due to a needed expansion of pest trapping efforts. Alaska continues to be relatively clean from unwanted pests but increased imports of nursey stock continues to be a pathway for introduction. Inspection activities promote food security as they provide needed access for market expansion and protect industries from unwanted pest introductions into the environment.

Analysis of results and challenges: Analysis of results and challenges:
State land sales were surveyed and appraised during FY2023. 38 parcels are proposed to be offered for sale in the Nenana Totchaket Agricultural Project, 1 full section parcel is proposed to be offered in the Kobe North Ag Project. All to be offered in the 2024 Agricultural Land Auction, comprising 39 parcels, totaling approximately 4,100 acres.. The Division will work with the Division of Mining Land and Water on the next phase of offerings.
The division provides assistance to ag parcel owners with preparation of State Farm Conservation Plans (SFCP) to ensure the appropriate use and conservation of soil and water resources. During FY 2022, 27 new SFCP were Approved by the Director, 5 SFCP updates were approved for existing ag parcels.

Analysis of results and challenges: The ARLF has sufficient loan funds available in the long term for Alaskan agriculture development, approximately $2.3 million remaining. The Board of Agriculture and Conservation kept the interest rate the same in FY2023 to offer a better rate than current market values. Most competitive lenders raised their interest rates in FY2022.

Analysis of results and challenges: FY2024 was a productive year due to a demand for agriculture loans for farm development.

There are six loan types:
-Short term (operating)
-Chattel
-Land Clearing
-Irrigation
-Product Processing
-Farm Development

Historically half of the annual loan demand is for short-term operating loans.

Analysis of results and challenges: There is an increase in the number of students across the state participating in FFA events at all levels following the pandemic. The number of students and teachers seeking opportunities to develop skills related to agricultureal careers is expected to increase.

Analysis of results and challenges: Due to one-time grant funding, there has been an increase in chapters in 2023. More schools are expected to establish FFA and agricultural education before end of the 2023-2024 school year.
