Target #1: Maintain or Increase the Number of Days at Sea by Alaska Wildlife Troopers Marine Vessels Methodology: Data are collected from vessel activity logs documenting the number of days each large, medium, and small class vessel is operational at sea. This includes fisheries enforcement, public safety patrols, and joint federal operations under the Joint Enforcement Agreement with the National Marine Fisheries Service. Large class vessels such as the P/V Stimson and P/V Camai provided extended coverage across the Gulf of Alaska, Aleutians, and Bering Sea, while medium and small vessels supported nearshore patrols and coastal search and rescue operations. Crew turnover and extended shipyard maintenance limited patrol scheduling during peak fisheries enforcement, but overall operational coverage remained consistent with long-term averages. Patrol distance is a key indicator of enforcement reach and geographic coverage across an area larger than the coastline of the rest of the United States combined. Annual mileage varies with fisheries season timing, weather, and vessel maintenance schedules. Continued investment in fleet maintenance, repowering, and crew training will ensure operational readiness and sustained coverage of Alaska`s critical maritime patrol zones.
