UAF"s unique geographic location and natural laboratory environment make it a research destination for scientists around the world and have helped position UAF as a top Arctic research university. In FY23, ~90% of the research revenue was concentrated in 5 UAF units: Geophysical Institute, College of Fish & Ocean Science, Institute of Arctic Biology, CEM Institute of Northern Engineering, and UAF International Arctic Research Center. UAF has continued to grow its research prominence and revenue, despite increasing competition for federal dollars from a growing number of Arctic research centers and universities. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is currently ranked number 3 globally in citations for Arctic research, contributing 87.5% (17,434 of 19,926) to the overall citation count for the UA System. One of the major contributors to UAF`s increase in donors was the third UA Giving Day, held February 22-23, 2023. UAF saw an increase in both dollars and donors compared to FY22. The online fundraising event drew participation from more than 1,675 individuals. Online donations to the three universities totals more than $1.3M to support students, university programs, research, athletics and scholarships. Of that statewide total, UAF specifically raised more than $834,000 from 795 donors. Lastly, one notable transformative philanthropic investment in FY23 were two large gifts from Kinross Alaska: $1M for the Troth Yeddha` Indigenous Studies Center and $300,000 to establish the Kinross Alaska Future Leaders Endowed Scholarship. Publication numbers are substantially dependent on the FTE research faculty, the number of graduate students and staff engaged in research, and on the grant and contract revenue supporting research, as well as on the productivity of individual faculty, staff, and students. Increasing research grant funding and the number of faculty engaged in research are the main strategies to increase performance on this measure. Target Last Modified: 09/25/2023 |
