Disaster Preparedness/Response and Recovery
The Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division provides disaster relief response, training, education and outreach for preparedness and planning to communities. Our goal is to minimize the effects of disasters and terrorism and assist citizens in the recovery from these events. |

Youth Intervention
The Alaska Military Youth Academy, ChalleNGe Program, offers at-risk youth the opportunity to become successful citizens. They participate in an academic and vocational learning environment that maximizes their potential for placement in employment, military, education or a combination thereof. |

Outreach to Veterans and Military Families
The Veterans Services office advocates for veterans and their families, provides outreach and supports members in their pursuit of benefits earned, provides assistance to new veterans exiting from military services and families of veterans that find themselves in need. |

In 2020, Veteran Services saw a decrease in rural travel due to limited budget for travel followed by the pandemic travel restrictions that began in March 2020. Locations visited: Anchor Point, Clear, Craig, Delta Junction, Fairbanks, Fort Greely, Glennallen, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Kenny Lake, Ketchikan, Klawock, Kodiak, Nikiski, North Pole, Seward, Sitka, Soldotna, Valdez. In 2023, Veterans Services saw an increase in rural travel requests since the release of the COVID restrictions. Locations visited: Anchor Point, Christochina, Coffman Cove, Cooper Landing, Craig, Edna Bay, Delta Junction, Edna Bay, Fairbanks, Gakona, Glennallen, Hollis, Homer, Hoonah, Houston, Hydaburg, Kasilof, Kenai, Ketchikan, Klawock, Kodiak, Lab Bay, Mendeltna, Mentasta, Metlakatla, Nikiski, Ninilchik, North Pole, Northway, Palmer, Port Lions, Port Protection, Saw Mill Creek, Slana, Soldotna, Sterling, Talkeetna, Tanacross, Thorne Bay, Tok, Valdez, Wasilla, Whittier Related links: Target Last Modified: 11/13/2023 |
